Workshop: An Inheritance of Trees with Sarah St Vincent Welch

  • City Hill 240 Bunda St Canberra, ACT, 2601 Australia (map)

Write poetry in response to the heritage-listed trees on City Hill with the guidance of poet and writer Sarah St Vincent Welch.

The geometric plantation of Roman Cypress Pine, Monterey Pine and Black Locust is a Canberra landmark dating to 1921, but it is most often seen from moving cars. Get up close and respond to the presence of these exceptional lifeforms. City Hill is both central and out of the way, monumental and hidden, ordered and yet a little edgy; very Canberra. Sarah will lead participants with suggestions for ways to evoke the trees and their environment in poetry.

$10/$5 - bookings essential - SOLD OUT

Sarah St Vincent Welch is a widely published poet and writer and experienced creative writing facilitator. The heritage trees of Canberra are one of her ongoing poetic interests. Her first book of poetry, Open, was published by Rochford Press in 2019.
