Tanka Poetry Performance with Limestone Tanka Poets

  • Glebe Park Rotunda Canberra, ACT, 2601 Australia (map)

As part of the Heritage Festival, Imagine, Limestone Tanka Poets will read tanka inspired by Canberra’s natural heritage. Traditionally the contents of a tanka were confined to love, loss and longing. However, Modern English Tanka reimagines this traditional approach, and embraces more up-to-the-minute and cutting edge range of topics. An example of this, by Canberra poet, Carmel Summers:

epicormic shoots

that slow creep of green

hides tortured limbs ---

masks we wear

when our world is not well

            Eucalypt issue 29

Join Limestone Tanka Poets for an afternoon among the trees in Glebe Park to enjoy the wide variety of up-to-date subjects embraced in this ancient genre. BYO folding chair.
